There are a number of small changes to WHS from April 2024. The most significant change that affect members of The Millbrook will be the new way of calculating course handicaps. The home nations will fall into line with the rest of the world and introduce “course rating minus par” to the existing equation. This means that when playing to your handicap (from April onwards) you will score level par. In the past, when playing to your handicap you would have a score equal to the course rating of a course (the new word for SSS) and not necessarily the par. This means that when looking up your course handicap you’re likely to find you receive a different number of shots than you do now.
What does this mean for the different Millbrook courses:
Tee | Par | Course Rating | Handicap Adjustment in calculation after 1st April |
Blue | 72 | 74.3 | +2.3 |
White | 74 | 73.3 | -0.7 |
Yellow | 74 | 71.0 | -3.0 |
Red | 74 | 74.1 | +0.1 |
For those who like to get into the details (rather than just letting the computer do all of the work), these will be the new Handicap Tables so you can see what your new playing handicaps will be:
So for example, for a Man, if your current Handicap Index is 16.8, your handicap off the Blue Tees would be 22, off the Whites, 19 and off the Yellows, it would be 17.
